Will Starlink offer you a discount if you ask to cancel? Retention offers, reported and dated
What customers and the press reported after cancellation requests, with dates; what cancelling sets in motion if no offer comes; and how to check an offer email.
Key takeaways
- Starlink's retention and win-back offers are targeted emails it doesn't publish, so there's no way to request one and no promise one will come.
- In November 2025, Starlink emailed former customers in the US, Canada and Australia an offer of 50% off any plan for 24 months if they reactivated by Dec 1, 2025.
- One customer reported a 20%-for-12-months offer after submitting a cancellation request in January 2026; that's one report, not a policy.
- Starlink's service credits don't pay immediate charges such as a reactivation, so check which invoice an offer actually lands on.
- Real Starlink email comes only from @starlink.com; sign in at starlink.com rather than paying through a link from an unknown sender.
Starlink has emailed some customers a discount after they asked to cancel, and has emailed former customers offers to come back, but it doesn’t publish these offers. There’s no way to request one, and nothing says you’ll get one.
People find out about them the same way: an email lands, they wonder whether it’s real, and they ask on Reddit. A May 2026 r/Starlink thread asking how many people got an offer to come back after cancelling drew 64 comments. Here’s what has been reported, with dates, and what Starlink’s own pages say about the parts you can check.
Offers after you ask to cancel: what customers reported, dated
The reports are scattered and come from individual accounts:
- January 2026, 20% for 12 months. A customer posted on r/Starlink on Jan 11, 2026 that Starlink offered 20% off after they submitted a cancellation, for 12 months. That’s one customer’s report; the thread drew 18 comments.
- July 2025, 20% off for select subscribers. Teslanorth reported on Jul 16, 2025 that Starlink was offering a rare discount to select subscribers, 20% off for six billing cycles.
Neither is a published program. Starlink chooses who gets an offer, and the reports don’t say how.
That matters if you’re thinking of asking to cancel just to see what happens. If no offer comes, the cancellation goes ahead, and Starlink’s rules for cancelling apply in full:
- Timing. Next month’s charge is avoided only if the cancellation lands before that invoice is created. Starlink’s billing clock is set to UTC, so the cutoff arrives on the prior evening by US local time.
- Service. You keep service through the days you’ve already paid for; it shuts off when that stretch runs out.
- Promotional pricing. Starlink’s promotional pricing terms say cancelling ends any promotional price, and those offers are for new customers only.
- Rented kits. A rented kit has a 30-day return deadline after you cancel, and it has to arrive undamaged; miss either condition and Starlink bills you the hardware’s full retail price.
Cancel because you want to stop service, not as a way to ask for a deal.
Win-back offers to former customers: the 2025 examples
Offers to people who have already left are better documented, because the press covered them:
| Offer | Who got it | Channel | Deadline | Source type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 50% off any plan for 24 months | Former customers in the US, Canada and Australia | Reactivate by Dec 1, 2025 | Press (Notebookcheck; Teslanorth, Nov 4, 2025) and a customer quoting the email | |
| A month of service at no charge | Former customers | Not stated in the headline | Sep 30, 2025 | Press (Teslanorth, Aug 31, 2025) |
| 20% off for six billing cycles | Select subscribers | Not recorded here | Not recorded here | Press (Teslanorth, Jul 16, 2025) |
| 20% off for 12 months | One customer, after a cancellation request | Shown after cancelling | Not recorded here | Customer report (r/Starlink, Jan 11, 2026) |
The 50% email is the one people still search for, and it ended on Dec 1, 2025. Its wording, dates and who received it are in our background note on the 2025 win-back email.
How these offers are applied: the reactivation bill, then which invoice
Coming back can involve a reactivation charge, and Starlink’s service credit article says credits aren’t applied to immediate transactions such as a reactivation, a plan change or a Shop order. They come off monthly subscription charges. Whether a win-back discount, as opposed to a credit, applies to the reactivation charge or only to later invoices, Starlink doesn’t say.
At least one customer reported that the discount was missing from the first full invoice after reactivating. Two checks help:
- The invoice preview. The Billing tab has a “preview invoice” for next month that, according to Starlink’s help center, already includes any promotion or discount and is refreshed each day. Some customers have reported previews that didn’t match the final charge, so check the invoice itself too.
- Keep the email. If the discount is missing, open a ticket from inside your account (on starlink.com: Sign in, My Account, Messages, New Ticket) and include the offer email.
Starlink’s Terms of Service also say that if you stop meeting a discount’s conditions, Starlink may remove it or charge back its value. Read any conditions in the email, such as a plan or a minimum period, before you reactivate.
Is the email real? Sender and link checks
An unexpected “come back for half price” email is exactly what a phisher would send, so check it against Starlink’s own rules. Its phishing article says:
- The sender. Real Starlink email comes only from the @starlink.com domain, “without any variations”. Companies Starlink works with for e-invoices and installation identify themselves by their own names, never as Starlink.
- Payment links. Starlink says it will never ask out of the blue for payment through another company or website. Payment links come by email to your account address or from Starlink Support while you’re talking to them. For WhatsApp, Starlink says a real message comes only from +1 555 821 7702 and not to use a payment link from any other number.
- Card details. Starlink never needs your debit card PIN, and it never charges for customer support.
The safest move needs no link: type starlink.com, sign in, and see whether the offer shows on your account. Some of Starlink’s emailed offers are also tied to the address that received them, and its order page can reject one used with a different email. How real Starlink promotions reach you covers emailed offers and special links in more depth.
If you still have Starlink and want to lower the bill without leaving, promotions for existing customers covers the options, from Residential Max extras to Standby Mode.
Questions about this
Will Starlink offer me a discount if I cancel?
It might not. Customers have reported offers after cancelling, but Starlink doesn't publish them, so cancel only if you're ready to stop service.
Is a rented kit due back after cancelling?
Yes. Under Starlink's rules a rented kit has to reach Starlink undamaged within 30 days of cancelling; if it doesn't, Starlink bills the kit's full retail price.
My win-back discount isn't on my bill. What should I check?
Look at the invoice preview in your account's Billing tab, then the invoice itself. If the discount is missing, open a support ticket from inside your Starlink account.
