How-to · US checkout
Where do you enter a Starlink code? Nowhere. Here is why
There’s no box. Here is starlink.com’s US order flow, the one check worth making before you pay, and what to do if the code didn’t stick.

Short answer
No box to type it
Nowhere. Starlink’s US checkout has no box for a promo, coupon or referral code. A referral code travels inside the referral link, and Starlink’s own promotion codes travel inside special starlink.com links. Open the link, order in that same browser tab, and don’t pay until the order page says “Referral Code Applied”.
Checked against starlink.com’s US order pages, help center and terms. Our method
Is there a box to enter a Starlink promo code?
No. We read the US order screens and the interface text starlink.com loads for them on Nov 3, 2026: the order, cart and payment steps had no field for a promo, coupon or referral code, and nowhere to add one after the fact. Most online stores put a code field next to the total; Starlink’s order page doesn’t have one. Nor could we find any spot to slip a referral code in after the fact.
The codes Starlink does honor travel in the address bar instead:
- A referral code (“RC-” followed by numbers) is the tail end of a customer’s referral link. A referral counts only when you order through that link. What an RC- code is.
- A Starlink promotion code arrives as a starlink.com link ending in
?promoCode=and the code. More on that below.
So the real question is whether the link carried the code all the way to the order page. This is the path a referral takes:
Step 1
Open the referral link
It’s starlink.com with ?referral= and the code on the end. The code is part of the address, so there’s nothing to type.
Step 2
That tab keeps the code
In starlink.com’s page code, which we went through on Oct 29, 2026, the referral stays with that one browser tab while you pick a plan and enter your address.
Step 3
Look for “Referral Code Applied”
It appears by the Checkout button. “Not Applied” instead? Stop and find out why before paying.
After two months
$100 from Starlink
Invoice number two, by the terms; help pages say from about day 60 after activation. Credit by default, cash where offered.
What breaks it
- Closing the tab, then typing starlink.com later
- Ordering in the Starlink app or on another device
- Buying the kit at a store or marketplace
- Clicking someone else’s link afterwards (the newest link wins)
The order flow, step by step
We opened a referral link and walked starlink.com’s US order flow with a public test address (a county courthouse in Nebraska, not a home), stopping before payment. Here is what each step asks of you, and what to check.
1. The page the link opens
The link lands on starlink.com with the code already in the address bar. When the code is valid, a green banner may say that you and the customer behind the link both get a reward. Nothing to click or copy there. No banner? Keep going: the check on the order page is the one that counts.
2. Your address
Type your service address and choose the matching suggestion. Do it in the tab where the link landed, not a fresh one.
3. Plans and prices for that address
The plans that follow are priced for the address you entered, because what you’re offered (plans, prices and promotions) depends on your location and account type. For scale only: before it knows any address, Starlink’s countrywide price feed listed the Residential tiers at $49.50/mo (100 Mbps), $76.50/mo (200 Mbps) and $143/mo (Max) on Nov 3, 2026, the day we checked. The cards for your address can show other prices. Any area offer or promotional price for your address appears here by itself, with nothing to type.
4. The order summary: still no code field
Pick a plan and the summary lists what you pay today: kit, shipping, tax and total. There’s no line for a code, and the referral changes none of the numbers. The kit and the first month are paid in full and the dish is activated as usual; the referral takes nothing off at checkout.

- Order summary
- Total Due Today
5. “Referral Code Applied”, by the Checkout button
This is the check that matters. With the referral attached, the words “Referral Code Applied” turn up in green next to Checkout (under the button on a laptop, over it on a phone). If it’s there before you click Checkout, the link did its job.

- Total Due Today
- Referral Code Applied
6. The same check on a phone
On a phone the order page runs as one long column, and the referral panel sits just above Checkout. Finish in the phone’s browser, in that same tab, rather than switching to the Starlink app.

- Address
- Plan cards
- Total Due Today
- Referral Code Applied
“Referral Code Applied” vs “Referral Code Not Applied”
Once a referral is in the tab, one of two notices appears on the order page:
- Applied Green means the code from the link is on this order.
- Not Applied When the referral is unusable (an invalid code, say, or one that doesn’t fit the order type), the order page swaps in an amber notice reading “Referral Code Not Applied”, and the order goes ahead with no reward.
“Applied” is good news, but not a promise: it confirms the attachment, not eligibility. The call on whether an order qualifies is Starlink’s alone, and it’s final. If the order does qualify, the reward comes after your first two months of service.
Seeing “Not Applied”? Stop before paying and check three things:
- You’re new to Starlink. People who have Starlink now, or had it before, don’t qualify.
- The plan fits. Starlink points the referral link at Residential or Roam orders on starlink.com.
- The tab is fresh. Open the referral link again and re-enter your address in the tab it opens.
Still “Not Applied”? The order will go through without the reward, so decide before you click Checkout.
Why stay in one browser tab?
Because the referral may not survive anywhere else. When we went through the scripts behind starlink.com’s order pages (Oct 29, 2026), the referral lived in that one tab’s session storage and nowhere else, so shutting the tab dropped it; that is our finding, not a written Starlink policy.
So treat the tab as the rule: reloading or clicking around inside it is fine, while a tab you open by hand, another browser, another device or the Starlink app may not have the code.
Two less obvious ways to lose it. First, a handful of help-center pages embed starlink.com links carrying some other customer’s RC- code, and following one inside your order tab trades your referral for theirs (our finding from the site’s page code). Read help pages in a separate tab. Second, the most recent referral link you click takes the place of the one before it.
The referral link won’t help you if…
You’re a Starlink customer now, or were one
Starlink rewards first-time customers only, so the link can’t do anything for your account. What you can use instead
Your order is already placed
Neither you nor Starlink support can attach a referral to an order once it’s in.
You’re picking up a kit at a retailer
A kit from any store or marketplace earns no reward, with or without the link.
Starlink sent you an offer of its own
Use that first. Nobody has confirmed that it stacks with a referral. How to check it’s real
You want Starlink for a short trip
The reward needs two full billing cycles, and Starlink built the program for people who keep their service.
Already ordered without a referral link?
Then that order can’t get one. Starlink’s help center says so directly: a referral can’t be attached after the order if the link wasn’t used to place it, whether the order was placed with no link, with another customer’s link, or for a kit from a store.
The terms explain why nothing can be added afterwards: the order has to go through the existing customer’s own referral link; Starlink’s terms rule out every other route. There’s no box to hunt for once you’ve paid. Already a customer? See what current customers can use instead.
What happens with a ?promoCode= link
Starlink’s own promotions work like referrals. Our Oct 21, 2026 pass through the site’s scripts found that starlink.com copies a ?promoCode= link parameter into that browser tab’s storage, the same way it keeps a ?referral= code. Open the link and the offer, if it’s valid for you, appears on the order page. Still nothing to type.
When something’s wrong, the order page says so in plain words. Two of its messages, in our words: one says the email you’re ordering with isn’t eligible and points you to the address the offer was sent to; the other says the promotion has expired.
The email point matters most: some offers belong to the address Starlink sent them to, so order with that same email. Either way you can still check out, just without the promotion. We haven’t confirmed how a Starlink ?promoCode= link and a ?referral= link interact in the same tab. How to tell a Starlink promotion link is genuine.
Other questions we checked
Can I type an RC- code at Starlink checkout instead of using the link?
No. The US order flow has no field for it, and Starlink’s referral terms rule out any route except the referral link itself (“No other referral mechanism shall qualify”). Open the link the code belongs to and order there. Is an RC- code a promo code?
Can Starlink support attach a referral once I’ve ordered?
No. According to Starlink’s help center, the referral never reaches the account when the order skipped the link, used a different customer’s link, or was for a kit from a store, and nobody can attach it later, you or support.
Does “Referral Code Applied” mean the $100 is certain?
Not on its own. The panel shows the link attached the code to this order. Starlink alone decides whether the order qualifies. If it does, the $100 lands on your second monthly bill under the terms, or from about day 60 after activation going by the help center, as credit unless your account offers cash.
Why does my order say “Referral Code Not Applied”?
Starlink shows it when the referral is unusable, for example an invalid code or one that doesn’t fit the order type. You can still check out, just without the reward. Make sure this is your first time with Starlink and that the plan is Residential or Roam, then open the referral link again and re-enter your address in the tab it opens.
Where do I enter a Starlink promotion code from an email?
Nowhere. A Starlink promotion arrives as a starlink.com link with ?promoCode= in it. Open it in your browser and order with the email address the offer went to. If the offer has expired or belongs to a different email, the order page tells you. How to check a promotion is real.
