Is there a Starlink discount for a second dish or a second account?

What a second Starlink line costs, the extras tied to Residential Max, what the terms say about 'family discount' lines, and the trade-offs of one account versus two.

Key takeaways

  • Starlink's published US offers include no general discount for adding a second line, and its promotional pricing applies to one service line only.
  • Residential Max adds a rented Mini at no monthly charge and halves the price of eligible Roam plans; where offered, Residential 100 or 200 gets 20% off eligible Roam plans with the Optional Mini Kit for Travel.
  • The Max extras can't be stacked with other offers, according to Starlink's Special Offers document.
  • A 'family discount' clause sits in the US Terms of Service, but where such lines are offered isn't stated, and the help article on them no longer loads.
  • A Residential account can hold up to 8 kits, and Starlink accounts can't be merged.

Starlink’s published US offers include no general discount for a second line on the same account. The standing extras belong to Residential Max (a Mini to rent at no monthly cost, plus half off eligible Roam plans), and the terms mention “family discount” lines without saying where they’re offered.

Owners keep asking about this. One r/Starlink thread in December 2025 remembered an older second-line discount and asked where it went; another in November 2025 asked why two accounts get no discount and drew 24 comments. Here’s what Starlink’s own pages support today.

What a second line costs today (dated)

A second line is priced like a first one. These are Starlink’s US national list levels, read with no address entered:

Setup Monthly cost (Starlink US list, Nov 3, 2026) Conditions
A second Residential line $49.50 (100 Mbps), $76.50 (200 Mbps) or $143 (Max) Your service address sets the price; 100 and 200 Mbps are in select areas only
A Roam line for travel $55 (100GB), $80 (300GB) or $175 (Unlimited) Kit bought separately: Mini $149 or Standard $349
A Mini with Residential Max No monthly fee for the Mini rental Only while your home plan is Residential Max
Eligible Roam with Residential Max 50% off the monthly cost Applies to eligible Roam plans
Eligible Roam with Residential 100 or 200 20% off Only where Starlink offers the Optional Mini Kit for Travel

The Residential levels are a reference, not your bill: starlink.com shows your own price only after you enter the address, and it can differ from the list, as current US offers shows with a dated example. For a home line, the kit may be rented rather than bought: on Nov 3, 2026, each Residential plan on the countrywide list came with a rented kit.

Residential Max extras: one Mini, half off eligible Roam

The one standing multi-dish deal is attached to the top home plan. Starlink’s Special Offers document says Residential Max subscribers can “Receive a Starlink Mini rental for no monthly fee and 50% off the monthly cost of eligible Roam service plans.” Its Mini Kit for Travel article adds that, where the offer runs with Residential 100 or 200, eligible Roam plans are 20% off.

Three limits come with it:

  • It’s a travel dish, not a second home line. The Mini rental is meant to go with you; it doesn’t add a second Residential service at another address.
  • It isn’t stackable. The Special Offers text rules out pairing it with anything else: the offer “may not be combined with other offers”.
  • It depends on the home plan. If you cancel your Residential plan or put it in Standby, Starlink says you must return the Mini or be charged its retail price.

The Mini is requested through a “Claim Mini” button in an email Starlink sends after activation, not with a code. One owner on Reddit asked whether two Minis could each get 50% off Roam with Max; Starlink’s offer text speaks of one Mini rental, and it doesn’t say whether more than one Roam line gets the 50%.

Moving up to Max just for the extras is a plan change. If your account has promotional pricing, Starlink’s promotional pricing terms say a plan change ends it.

“Family discount” lines in the US terms

The US Terms of Service carry a clause on “family discount” lines. As read in October 2026, it describes being offered extra subscriptions on the same account at a discounted kit or monthly price, on the condition that at least one full-price subscription stays on the account; cancel that one and the discount goes away.

What the terms don’t say is where, or to whom, these lines are offered. Starlink’s help article titled “What is the Starlink Family Discount?” no longer loaded on Oct 29, 2026, and no US invitation for family discount lines turned up in the sources for this post. If Starlink offers you one, it will appear in your account or in an email from an @starlink.com address, not as a code you enter.

The same caution applies to the older second-line discount some owners remember. Without a Starlink page or a dated record, this post doesn’t claim it existed in the US. Starlink’s promotional pricing terms point the other way for new offers: “Discount will only apply to one service line.”

One account or two: billing and Standby trade-offs

If you want two dishes, you can keep them on one account or split them across two. Each has trade-offs.

One account, several lines. Starlink’s help center says “Residential accounts are limited to 8 kits.” Any credits on the account apply to its monthly subscription charges, and Max’s Mini and Roam extras only make sense on the same account as the Max plan. A Roam line can be paused with Standby Mode when you’re not travelling, for a small monthly fee; promotional plans, V5 hardware and select rental kits can’t use Standby.

Two accounts. Each one needs its own account holder. Starlink’s terms say you must create an account “in your own name”, and its help center says “There is no way to directly merge Starlink accounts.” Credits stay where they were issued: Starlink says credits are non-transferable. Two accounts also mean two sets of bills and two logins to manage.

For a second dish you only use some of the time, pausing it with Standby can save more than a discount would. Starlink describes the Standby fee only as “a small monthly fee”; RV Mobile Internet reported it at $10 a month in May 2026. When you resume, Starlink charges the plan’s monthly fee straight away, prorated for the rest of the cycle.

Neither route changes the monthly price of a line. Only the Max extras, an area offer at the service address, or an offer Starlink sends you does that.

A second account doesn’t make you a new customer

New-customer offers, including promotional pricing, are for people who have never had Starlink. A second account in your own name doesn’t change that, and Starlink’s own-name rule means an account opened in a relative’s name for your use doesn’t fit the terms either. A household that has genuinely never had Starlink is a new customer in its own right, and its own decision.

For the offers that do apply to current customers, including area offers, Standby and how credits come off a bill, see promotions for existing customers.

Questions about this

Can I open a second account to get new-customer pricing?

A second account in your own name doesn't make you a new customer, because new-customer offers are for people who have never had Starlink. Starlink's terms also require each account to be in the user's own name, so an account in a relative's name for your own use doesn't fit them either.
